A photo of four Ghanaian women waiting in a queue to stake lotto has sparked interesting discussions on social media with some persons asking if women have now taken over the practice considered the preserve of men.
The answer to this question may surprise you.
Chill, we’ve got information for you. A research conducted by news website Kasatintin.com indicates that women in Ghana (76%) play the lottery more than men (24%).
According to the research findings, a total of 2,567 women stake lotto across the nation on Wednesdays and Fridays and they mostly use part of the house keeping money (chop money) to try their luck in the game.
The men, on the other hand stake lotto on daily basis.
Majority of the women contended that lotto helped them to win extra cash to support home.
One woman confessed that:
‘Lotto is cool. I won over 30,000 cedis in the NLA Friday Bonanza. That’s what I used to complete this chamber and hall’.
Another woman also said:
‘My husband is ‘chisel’ [close fisted]. Anytime I am hot or need some quick money to sort out myself at the weekend , I go in for some two sure. I won 7,000 cedis two days ago. Lotto is my saviour, I can’t stop staking lotto’.
