BREAKING: Speaker Declares NPP As Majority Group In Parliament

The 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic resumed sitting on Friday, January 15.

This is the first time the House is meeting after the legislators threw punches in the chamber and destroyed voting materials during the election of a Speaker on January 7, 2021.

Armed military and police personnel invaded the House in the midst of the chaotic election. But the act has been condemned by the citizenry.

NDC and NPP have equal representation in Parliament, 137 each and 1 Independent MP (Andrew Asiamah Amoako) who has officially aligned himself with the NPP.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin declared the NPP and Independent candidate alliance as constituting the majority group in Parliament.

Ahead of this declaration, some NPP MPs stormed Parliament House as early as 4am on Friday to occupy the seats on the right side of the Speaker, which is reserved for the Majority party.
