Some NPP members of parliament (MPs) on Friday, January 15 denied themselves the comfort of their beds to enter parliament house as early as 4am just to occupy the majority side of the house.
The 8th Parliament was expected to reconvene at 10am today after rising on January 7.
By convention, the political party with the highest number of representatives in Parliament is described as the majority caucus and it sits at the right hand side of the Speaker.
Both the NPP and NDC have 137 elected MPs.
Based on his alliance, the Speaker on Friday afternoon declared the NPP together with the Independent candidate as the ‘majority group in Parliament‘.
The NPP MPs were confident the Speaker will give a verdict in their favour hence wore a white dress when they stormed the chamber at dawn.
A week ago, the NDC caucus also pulled a surprise on their counterparts using the same tatctics — sitting at the right hand side of the Speaker.
The NDC then, argued that they have the same number of seats just as the NPP hence they could sit anywhere in Parliament.
