Abigial Mawutor Rawlings, the Togolese lady claiming to be the first daughter of late President Jerry John Rawlings has made headlines in the last few days.
Abigial Mawutor caused a scene at the Accra International Conference Centre when security officers blocked her from seeing the body of her ‘late father’ Rawlings.
Someone who identifies herself as a classmate of Abigial Mawutor in Primary school has corroborated the story which she earlier shared with the media.
She recalled how colleagues teased Abigial in school–Adabraka L/A Primary School, Accra–and called her bastard because she didn’t know who her father was.
She revealed that it was widely known in Adabraka community that Abigail’s mother could not make out the man who got her pregnant.
She added that later, people referred to Abigial as ‘Rawlings daughter’ due to the fact that they look alike and also for the reason that Rawlings attended Adabraka L/A Primary School.
According to Abigail Mawutor, her mother Rose Agbodzi Sende, an Ewe based in Accra but originally from Togo unveiled the identity of her biological father recently.
She alleged that Rawlings, then 20years and a final student in secondary school impregnated her mother in 1967.
But young Rawlings allegedly pleaded with Rose to keep the pregnancy secret so as not to provoke his strict parents from discontinuing his education–to which Rose agreed.
Abigail was born in March 1968 to a single mother. The same year, Rawlings, 21 became an Airforce Cadet.
Rose left Abigial Mawutor in the care of an old lady in Adabraka when she found a man who wanted to marry her.
Madam Abigial Mawutor went to Rawlings’ family home in 2002. She was warmly accepted as the family was already aware of a lady at Lome claiming to be Rawlings’ daughter whom he occasionally sent money to.
The identity cards of the prodigal daughter bears the name Abigial Mawutor Rawlings.
She has insisted on several platforms that late President Jerry John Rawlings is her biological father, and she is ready to subject herself to a DNA test to prove her claim.
