National Security Boss Kan Dapaah Names The Person Who Ordered Soldiers To Invade Parliament In January

Albert Kan Dapaah, the President’s nominee for the Minister of National Security has given an account on why armed military men stormed the chamber of Parliament on the eve of the swearing-in of the 8th Parliament on 7th January, 2021.

According to Kan Dapaah, an Army Commander whose name he kept secret ordered the armed soldiers to move in when he noticed things were getting out of hands in the chamber.

He narrated that the said Army Commander instructed the military to restore order as the two sides of the House engaged in a scuffle over election of new Speaker.

Mr Kan Dapaah added that the Commander took the action on his own volition without seeking any advice from anyone.

Kan Dapaah, who is seeking to become the National Security head for the second time told Parliament’s Appointment Committee during his vetting on Wednesday that:

‘When I saw it I was also alarmed…I posed the question do you think your presence there was going to frighten the members of Parliament? No. Were you going to arrest them? No, you couldn’t have arrested anybody there’.

He revealed that the matter has been referred to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) for further investigation.

‘…I know that the CDS has been asked to investigate the matter and to take the appropriate action if he also comes by the conclusion that was done was totally unprofessional. Orders have already been given for the CDS to take the appropriate action. And nobody should underestimate the significance of what happened’.
