Actress Akuapem Poloo has appealed the 90-day jail term an Accra Circuit Court handed to her on Friday.
The Ghanaian celebrity has been punished for publishing an obscene photograph on social media.
Reports said as part of the procedures, Poloo has been detained at the Osu Police station and waiting to be transferred to the Ankaful prison to begin her sentence.
‘This transfer would be complete if her COVID -19 test results come out negative.
This step may protect other prisoners from possible infection which can arise out of her integration with them’. 3News said.
In the meantime, Akuapem Poloo’s lawyer, Andrew Vortia is reported to have filed an appeal at the Accra High Court.
‘The notice of appeal was filed Monday (April 19, 2021) by Poloo’s lawyer, Mr Andrews Vortia, at the Accra High Court [Criminal Court 2 Division]’, according to Graphiconline.com.
Kasatintin.com gathers that Akuapem Poloo is premising her appeal on two grounds; that first, she’s a first time offender and therefore the Circuit Court should have considered her plea of guilty as a mitigating factor when imposing the sentence.
The convicted actress again argues that the trial judge should have imposed a fine on her instead of a custodial sentence.
In addition, Akuapem Poloo has also filed an application for bail pending the determination of her appeal.
Her legal team is expected to move the motion of notice of appeal and the bail on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Accra High Court.
