The minority side of Ghana Parliament have raised serious concerns as to the way the house approved the 2022 budget on Tuesday evening.
The budget was approved in the absence of the NDC MPs. They boycotted parliament.
They believe that someone else who resembles Dome Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo stormed the house to aid the majority side to take a decision on the budget.
Government is seeking to raise more revenue for the next fiscal year especially through the introduction of the E-Levy to be imposed on all electronic transactions.
Majority of Ghanaians and some think tanks have suggested to government to either scrap the tax or reduce its intended E-levy from 1.7% to 0.2% in order to encourage massive use of electronic payment platforms.
North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that the minority cacaus suspect a case of impersonation of Sarah Adwoa Safo during Tuesday’s proceedings.
Okudzeto Ablakwa told Joy FM in interview monitored by Kasatintin.com that ‘We believe the person presented as Hon. Adwoa Sarfo is someone else. We are still investigating’.
He explained that ‘Following pictures and videos we are reviewing this morning, it is becoming quite apparent to us that there may be a case of impersonation with regards to the lady who was presented as Adwoa Safo. It’s beginning to appear that she may not be Adwoa Safo’.
It has emerged that Sarah Adwoa Safo, who doubles as the Gender Minister has been granted leave by the President upon her request.
She sought the leave for personal reasons and it was supposed to have ended on August 31, 2021.
Adwoa Safo later requested for an extension of her leave which was granted.
Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has been acting in her stead as caretaker MP ‘until further notice’.
