Kasatintin.com can report that Onua TV presenter Captain Smart has been arrested by the Nima Divisional Police on Thursday, December 2, 2021.
Smart was picked up by state security at 11.00am at home.
He was arrested for making some unsavoury pronouncements on his show which is viewed to threaten the peace and security of the nation, police news release said.
The fearless broadcaster is claimed to have called for an ‘uprising’ in the country while expressing his displeasure with the level of economic hardship in Ghana on his TV programme.
Police stated that ‘He has been cautioned on the offence of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace as provided under section 207 of the Criminal Act,1960 (Act 29)’.
A separate statement from the National Media Commission (NMC) observed that Captain Smart called for ‘insurrection against the state of Ghana and its institutions’ in a recent broadcast aired on Accra-based Onua TV/FM.
Captain Smart is widely known for being critical of all irresponsible political elites.
It appears Captain Smart cannot be tamed.
Media General, owners of Onua TV have responded to Captain Smart’s arrest.
They believe that comments made by the ace broadcaster has being misinterpreted by the police.
A statement signed by the Group Head of Corporate Affairs Christopher Koney noted that their review of the said comments does not support the police’s claim of potential ‘threats to the peace and or stability of the country’.
