The Nigeria Super Eagles will face Egypt at Garoua on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT), in Group D at the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Since 2010, Nigeria and Egypt have played five times, twice in Africa Cup of Nations Qualifications, One in Africa Cup of Nations, and twice in international friendlies, with a perfect head-to-head record of thirteen goals scored.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles are on the hunt for new glory.
Nigeria kicks off the campaign in high spirits, with the Super Eagles hoping to return to the continental crowning stage and win the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations for the fourth time.
They begin with a difficult match against their arch-rivals the Pharaohs, but the Super Eagles are eager to reclaim the crown they last won in 2013.
‘The organization is great, and I applaud Cameroon for that,’ Augustine Eguavoen (Coach, Nigeria) said. We are unconcerned. We respect Egypt, but Nigeria is a formidable opponent, and we are not here to lose. I’m not aiming for personal glory; instead, the most important thing to me is a victory for Nigeria’.
‘This is my last Africa Cup of Nations, and I thank God for everything I’ve accomplished,’ says Ahmed Musa, Nigeria’s captain. We have a strong team, and we will fight for the championship no matter what it takes. I give it my all whenever I play for the national team because it is a wonderful honor, especially as captain’.
The Pharaohs seek to kick off their campaign with a win over the Super Eagles, which would boost their chances and morale. Egypt is aiming for their eighth continental title, ten years after completing a record Africa Cup of Nations trifecta from 2006 to 2010.
‘We are ready and eagerly awaiting the start of the voyage,’Carlos Queiroz (Coach, Egypt) said ‘Everyone is willing to put out their best effort. We’ll be up against a team with a lot of quality players, but we’re prepared and ready to take them on’.
‘All teams have strong players and have the opportunity to fight,” says Egypt’s Mohamed Salah. Because we have a terrific team and great players, we will do everything we can to win tomorrow.
‘We are in the process of developing a new generation, but we have advanced to the World Cup play-offs and will now compete for the Africa Cup of Nations.
coach Queiroz added ‘I’ve never won a national team title, and I’m hoping this will be the first. We have a fantastic coach and a fantastic team, so we’ll give it our all’.
