Tollbooths on major roads in Ghana are to be turned into washrooms.
According to 3news.com report sighted by Kasatintin News, ‘Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, has disclosed tollbooths across the country will used to serve another public purpose since the collection of road tolls has been abolished by the government’.
The government in its 2022 Budget statement scrapped the collection of tolls across the country with the intention to ease traffic.
Without proper approval from Parliament, the sector minister issued a directive to cause the immediate cessation of tolls in the country.
The toll structures have been abandoned though it poses serious dangers to motorists and other road users.
Road minister, Amoako-Attah is reported to have said that the tollbooth will be used for public urinals.
News report quoted him as saying;
‘We even want to refurbish all tollbooth structures to provide proper and decent washrooms for the use by motorists so that we advised them to desist from that practice where sometimes you see cars stopping on the highway and people getting down to wee-wee as we usually see’.
