Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has made an extraordinary but ‘morally difficult’ decision to release prisoners from across the country to join the fight against the Russian invasion.
Zelensky’s latest decision is critical as Vladimir Putin launches devastating attack on Kharkiv and peace talks fail.
In his address on Monday, February 28, the Ukraine leader ordered the immediate release of prisoners ‘with real combat experience’ to join the army to combat the Russian troops.
‘The key is now defence’, President Zelensky said ‘We have taken a decision which is not easy from the moral point of view, but which is useful from the point of view of our defences’.
Zelensky declared that;
‘Under martial law, Ukrainians with real combat experience will be released from custody and will be able to compensate for their guilt in the hottest spots of the conflict’.
He intimated that Ukraine must be on high alert because ‘They (Russian troops) are fighting against all living beings’.
‘They are fighting against kindergartens, residential buildings and ambulances.
‘They use rocket artillery, missiles in city districts where there are not, and never were, any military facilities’.
