Man In Court For Using Company’s ¢1Million For Sports Betting


An employee of a leading electronics company in Accra has been dragged to court and remanded into police custody for allegedly stealing over GH₵1million from his workplace.

The suspect (name withheld), an Administrative Officer of the private company was discovered to have spent the GH¢1,079,728 on sports betting following an internal audit exercise conducted into the company’s funds.

The court was informed that on March 4, the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) gave the accused GH¢ 800,000 to deposit into the bank account of one of its suppliers over an agreed transactions.

On March 14, 2022, the supplier reached out to the CEO and indicated that no money had been deposited into their account.

When confronted, the accused person confessed that he did not deposit any money on the said date and that he forged the pay-in-slip he presented as proof of the deposit made at the bank.

The CEO reported the case to the police leading to his arrest.


A follow-up audit exercise in the company revealed that additional GH¢279,728 was unaccounted for, making a total of GH¢1, 079,728.


The accused person is reported to have confessed at the police station that he used the money for sports betting but lost.
