Thousands of angry protesters have taken over the official residence of Sri Lanka President Gatabaya Rajapaksa.
Gotabaya has announced through the country’s parliamentary speaker, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana that he will step down on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.
The protesters from all over the country marched to Colombo to demand his resignation over the mismanagement of the economy.
The country is experiencing rampant inflation and also struggling to import basic essentials such as food, fuel and medicine.
Others are using his swimming pool, taking shower in his tub while other cooling off with drinks from his fridge.
Reports say Gatabaya has already been moved to a safer location.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his family have dominated the Sri Lankan political space for 20years.
