Close to a thousand Nigerian sex workers have taken over European Town, a popular community in the Western Region of Ghana.
The community hosts the Sekondi Harbour.
The presence of the commercial sex workers has reportedly increased criminal activities in the area.
The Chief Fisherman of the Sekondi Fishing Harbour, Nana Kofi Essoun has expressed concern on the matter, promising it will be dealt with drastically.
‘The harbour is now not safe. As I speak with you now, we have over 900 commercial sex workers from Nigeria who have erected sheds for their trade. They engage in various activities endangering the peace we have been enjoying at the harbour’, he told Takoradi-based Connect FM.
Nana Kofi added ‘…we will not sit aloof for things to get out of hand. I will make sure their structures are demolished soon’.
