Rice Shortage In Liberia–People Faint, Injured In Stampede At Warehouse



There is shortage of rice in Liberia.

The situation has caused panic buying and anxiety in the country.

ADVERTISEMENT gathers that the commodity started disappearing from shops and marketplaces several weeks ago.

Rice retailers and consumers have spent days and nights in queues at a foreign warehouse in the capital, Monrovia that still has a small consignment for sale.

Some people have fainted while in queues. Others have sustained injuries in a stampede at various retail shops.


President George Weah says he does not believe that there is rice shortage in his country.

According to him rice importers have told him they have stock that can last up to next year.
