Ghana’s former Minister of Finance, Prof. Kwesi Botchwey has died on Saturday, November 19, 2022 after a short illness.
The tragic incident occurred in the morning at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was receiving treatment, local media report.
Prof. Kwesi Botchwey was 78 years old and was a key member of the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He is seen as the longest serving Finance Minister of Ghana, having served in that capacity from 1982 to 1993 under the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) military government led by the late Jerry John Rawlings.
Rawlings appointed him again as Finance Minister in 1993 when Ghana returned to democratic governance.
Kwesi Botchwey left office in 1995. His deputy, Kwame Peprah took over from him.
