England–A man has been dragged to a South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court for allegedly putting his penis in a seagull’s beak.
On Friday, February 17, 2023, the accused, David Lee was charged with causing unnecessary suffering to the bird as his act contravened Animal Welfare Act 2006.
Prosecutors informed the court that Lee, 39 ‘Unreservedly did an act [where] he took a wild bird, forced it down, and placed his penis in its mouth, whereby causing unnecessary suffering to that animal’.
However, Lee entered a plea of not guilty. The court granted him unconditional bail. His trial will continue at a later date.
Per the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985, it is a crime to intentionally kill or injure a seagull or any wild species.
Offences against wildlife carry a penalty fine of up to £5,000 or a jail term.
