Ghana’s state broadcaster GTV has in the last two days intensified campaigns to get more people to pay their TV licence.
In their first tweet, GTV said ‘Payment of TV licence, your civic responsibility’ but the national television put the collection of the fee on hold due to huge public outcry.
Domestic TV users are to pay between GH¢36 and GH¢60 for one or more TV sets in the same house every year.
Defaulters ‘shall be liable on conviction to a fine or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year’ according to established law, Section 1(a) of the TV licensing Act 1966 (NLCD 89) as amended.
On Friday, May 5, 2023, GTV shared a parody post on their official Twitter page and ‘threatened’ to send people who do not pay their TV licence or follow them back on Twitter to Nogokpo.
In case you didn’t know, Nogokpo is considered by many to be the quickest results-oriented shrine in Ghana. It is located in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region of Ghana.
