The Executive Director of the National Cathedral of Ghana, Dr Paul Opoku Mensah has revealed that the national cathedral project has reached the steel laying stage, and an amount of $100 million will be needed to import all the steel materials to be used for the work.
He said without it, the building cannot proceed.
Dr Opoku Mensah explained in a media interview that, the architectural design does not include the use of blocks, hence once the secretariat receives the amount, the project will continue.
He maintained that the cathedral is not a small building. The structure is something never seen in Ghana before. The design is intended to help the building to last for decades.
The entire cathedral project will cost nearly a billion dollar. According to overseers of the project, foods mentioned in the Bible will be sold in the cathedral. But Ghanaians’ reactions have been hostile.
So far, $30 million has been spent on the project, however no actual building can be seen at the site.
Despite the huge cost and shortage of funds for the project, President Nana Akufo-Addo is determined to complete the national cathedral because he made a personal pledge to God to build a temple for Him should he become president of Ghana one day.
