The security and intelligence services in Burkina Faso have foiled a coup attempt on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
Four perpetrators (all military officers) have been detained, and accused of planning to overthrow President Capt Ibrahim Traoré who seized power in 2022.
Authorities said in a televised statement on Wednesday that the alleged instigators of the coup had ‘the dark intention of attacking the institutions of the Republic and plunging the country in chaos.
‘Officers and other alleged actors involved in this attempt at destabilisation have been arrested and others are actively sought’.
The military government said it is regrettable for ‘officers whose oath is to defend their homeland have strayed into an undertaking of this nature’.
