Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong could become the running mate of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Conceding defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium Saturday evening, Mr Agyapong pledged his full support to help Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) beat NDC’s John Mahama again for the third consecutive time.
‘I believe the party has been fair and transparent, and the only thing I have always been preaching is that this election is fair and my grassroots people have spoken. I pledge my support that we are going to work tirelessly to break the eight’, he said.
The NPP on Saturday, November 4,2024 elected Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the sitting Vice President as its new leader and flagbearer towards the 2024 general elections.
Bawumia garnered 61.47% (118, 210 votes) while his closest contender Kennedy Agyapong, polled 71,996 votes representing 37.41% in the NPP presidential primaries.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto placed third and polled 1,459 votes representing 0.76%, while Addai-Nimoh had only 731 votes representing 0.41%.
A few days to the party’s presidential primaries, all the four candidates signed a memorandum of understanding not to break away from NPP regardless of the outcome of the internal election.
Information said leadership of the NPP admits that the Assin Central legislator pulled an unexpected surprise in the primaries, and it is important to reward him with the running mate position as a way to keep him in the party. SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
