The Guinness World Records (GWR) report witnessing a surge in the number of applications from Nigeria, Ghana and other parts of Africa within the last quarter of 2023.
As of July 2023, GWR had received over 1,500 applications from Nigerians alone, and 350 submissions from Ghana.
Most of the applicants want to either attempt breaking an existing record or setting a new record entirely for fame.
This follows the recent success story of Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci, who broke the GWR for the longest cooking marathon, and high media hype for Afua Asantewaa’s Sing-a-thon attempt in Accra and Chef Faila Abdul Razak’s 227 Hours non-stop cooking attempt in Tamale.
Based on the current data, some netizens predict that Africans will soon dominate the list of world record holders.
‘You people will regret bringing the Guinness Book Of World Records to Africa. It will soon get finished unless you bring a new book’, one social media reacted with a witty post.
‘I’m sure the Guinness World Records book is full by now’, another social media user said. SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
