The Special Prosecutor has cleared former President John Mahama of any wrongdoing in the Airbus scandal.
The final report released by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Thursday, August 8, 2024 read: ‘…the OSP investigation found no evidence that former President Mahama was involved or played any role in the procurement and maintenance of the agency relationship between Airbus and Foster and his associates in respect of the purchase by the Government of Ghana of military transport aircraft from Airbus’.
Though the OSP found that ‘Government Official 1′ as referenced by the UK Court document in the Airbus bribery scandal is John Mahama, however, there is nothing to show that he was paid any bribes.
Some members of the ruling NPP think that the Special Prosecutor did a lazy investigative work whereas members of the opposition NDC are making a political capital out of the OSP’s investigative report. They believe that their candidate Mahama has more credibility going into the December 7 general elections.
In his comment on social media, NDC’s top communicator, Sammy Gyamfi said ‘Let it be on record that @JDMahama, a former Vice President and former President of the republic, has subjected himself to investigations by a statutory anti-corruption body and has come out unscathed.
Let no one cry foul when Akufo-Addo and Bawumia are subjected to the same standard of accountability post 7th January, 2025. NB: Save this tweet. Tomorrow is pregnant’. SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
