A short video capturing a brief encounter between President Nana Akufo-Addo and the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA),Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has caused a stir on social media.
Some netizens infer from President Akufo-Addo’s body language while talking to the GJA boss and suggest that he appeared to be unhappy with the remarks Dwumfour gave about the sorrowful situation of illegal mining activities in the country when he spoke at the GJA 28th Media Awards held on Saturday, September 28,2024 in Accra.
Before walking down to sit by the President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour had appealed to the Akufo-Addo government to take bold steps to deal with the ravaging crisis of illegal mining ‘Galamsey’ in the country.
During his speech, he also condemned the manner in which the police handled protesters of the anti-galamsey movement (Democracy Hub), warning such acts sent a wrong message about Ghana’s commitment to protecting human rights and upholding freedom of speech.
Further, the GJA boss appealed to authorities to release the Democracy Hub protesters who will spend some weeks in remand.
Later, President Akufo-Addo was captured in a video slightly withdrawing himself from the GJA president who was seated next to him.
Some social media users say this posture by the President Akufo-Addo is an indication that he didn’t like the statement from the GJA President. Watch full video here. SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
