John Mahama has announced plans to extend maternity leave by an additional month should he be to power again in 2024.
Under the current policy, working mothers are entitled to three months of leave after giving birth.
Justifying the decision to review the maternity leave policy, Mahama stated that ‘By the fourth month, when a baby begins to wean, mothers often have to return to work. SOURCE.
‘I will add an extra month to allow mothers to monitor their child’s development before resuming their professional responsibilities’.
Also, Mahama mentioned that his government will introduce a week-long paternity leave policy to allow new fathers to stay home from work. However, fathers Flash media must provide proof of marriage to access this leave.
