Over 34,000 new people have tested positive to Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in Ghana.
The Ghana Health Service revealed the new HIV cases were recorded from January to the third quarter of 2024, noting that the trend poses a significant challenge to Ghana’s goal of ending the epidemic by 2030.
Adults aged 25 and above constitute the majority (84.7%) of the HIV population.
HIV targets the body’s white blood cells, weakening the immune system. This makes it easier to get sick with diseases like tuberculosis, infections and some cancers.
HIV is spread from the body fluids of an infected person, including blood, breast milk, semen and vaginal fluids.
Get tested today at any public health facility, but the safest way to protect each other is to be faithful to your partner.
Also, help to reduce new infections by behaving well or abstaining from sexual activities. Use condoms consistently and correctly as a protective measure against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
Persons living with HIV are advised to take their treatment seriously to prevent further transmission. SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
