More disturbing reports about the chieftaincy dispute in Abetiifi-Kwahu in the Eastern Region of Ghana have surfaced online.
In the latest move, one of the queen mothers of the area has been stripped naked and paraded on the streets as a form of punishment. Reports said this was part of rituals to banish her from the town.
A few days ago, six individuals were taken to the hospital following a ‘violent clash between residents of Kwahu Abetifi and a group of armed men who stormed the Abetifi Palace to attempt the destoolment of Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, the acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Area’.
Citi News revealed that ‘tensions escalated when Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, posing as the Abrewatia (chief’s wife) of the Kwahu area, arrived in Abetifi with a group of armed men.
‘Initially believed to be National Security operatives, the group escorted Yaa Asantewaa to the Abetifi Palace, where they detained Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III’.
The report added that ‘Yaa Asantewaa and her armed entourage then forcibly moved the acting President to a nearby older palace, where she allegedly performed traditional rites intended to destool him, including the slaughtering of a sheep as part of the ritual.
News of the attempted destoolment spread quickly, inciting local youth to gather, armed with machetes, in protest’.
However, security forces stepped in to prevent widespread clashes. SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
