The Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified Ghana Freedom Party(GFP)’s Roman Fada from contesting in the 2024 presidential elections.
Roman Fada, known in private life as Philip Appiah Kubi was hoping to step in as the new flagbearer of the GFP following the death of Madam Akua Donkor, the leader and founder of the party.
Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa officially announced the disqualification of the GFP from the 2024 presidential race at an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday morning, November 12.
The EC Chairperson explained that GFP’s Vice Presidential candidate, Roman Fada, who was recently nominated to replace did not sufficiently meet the necessary qualifications.
The EC found irregularities in Roman Fada’s nomination forms. He failed to comply with the requirement for two registered voters-from each district- to endorse his presidential form.
According to the EC, the printing of the presidential ballot papers will continue but will maintain the order of all presidential candidates on the ballot paper.
Jean Mensa stated that Akua Donkor’s image and party symbol will still appear on the ballot paper in the third position, as originally assigned before her passing. However, ‘any votes cast for Madam Akua Donkor, the GFP’s late presidential candidate, will be annulled’.SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
