The Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended the printing of presidential ballot papers following the sudden death of Madam Akua Donkor.
The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) presidential candidate died on Monday, October 28,2024 while receiving treatment at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.
Madam Akua Donkor secured the number 3 position on the ballot papers.
The GFP is expected to nominate a new presidential candidate within the next 10days to replace Akua Donkor. This is consistent with Article 50(4) of the 1992 Constitution, which provides for a ten-day window to allow for the nomination of a new candidate if one of the candidates dies after the close of nominations but before the election.
Legal experts say the positions of each of the presidential candidates on the ballot will not change even if GFP doesn’t file a new candidate.
In the meantime, the EC has announced a suspension of the printing all presidential ballot papers in order to accommodate any necessary adjustments to the ballots. SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
