The statue of President Nana Akufo-Addo has been vandalised by unknown individuals as of Monday morning.
According to the police, the left leg of the monument has been damaged, while the plaque has been removed. But further investigation is underway.
The statue was unveiled in November this year by President Akufo-Addo himself, and it was erected at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout in the Western Region.
Some residents had ‘warned’ that they will relocate the controversial statue to the President’s hometown if a new government took over power after the 2024 elections.
The controversial statue has caught the attention of the BBC, CNN and other international press.
The BBC Africa report on X read ‘Ghana’s outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo has just unveiled a statue of himself while on a tour of the country’s Western Region. But critics have called it ‘self glorification’ and questioned its importance when several key projects remain incomplete’.
