With just 365 days to the 2024 general elections, flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is yet to settle on who becomes his running mate.
Bawumia failed to submit the list of possible candidates for the running mate position to the party’s highest decision-making body for consideration at the end of the constitutionally mandated deadline—December 6,2023.
However, the party says it has extended the deadline for its flagbearer to do broader consultations on who should partner him in next year’s election.
At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua explained that Bawumia needs more time to consult and choose a suitable running mate for the 2024 elections.
Bawumia is likely to pick his running mate from the Ashanti Region and it could be any of these prominent figures: Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Energy Minister), Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (Education Minister) and Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu (Majority Leader).
The rest are Akosua Frema Osei-Opare (current Chief of Staff at the Presidency), Isaac Osei (former MP for Subin) and Apostle Opoku Onyinah (the immediate past chairman of the Church of Pentecost). SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
