Nigeria has taken bold steps to ban access to p0rnographic contents on digital platforms in the country, citing moral concerns.
The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has been directed by the House of Representatives to take immediate action to block all websites and social media platforms producing such contents deemed harmful to public morality.
Authorities have also called for penalties against telecom operators that fail to restrict access to websites.
The House of Representatives reached the resolution after a heated debate on the matter.
During a plenary session, Katsina State lawmaker, Dalhatu Tafaki led the motion and argued that young Nigerians have increasingly become addicted to explicit material, which could negatively impact their development.
He referenced similar restrictions in parts of Africa, the Middle East and Asia to make a case for the ban of explicit contents in Nigeria.
The House backed Tafaki’s proposal in a voice vote presided over by the Speaker of the House.

It is obvious that p0rn is a source of entertainment for many young people in Nigeria. The new regulation will really hit them hard.
