JoyNews is reporting that government has resolved to withdraw the controversial E-levy from parliament.
Majority of Ghanaians have kicked against the introduction of the proposed 1.75% tax on elecronic transactions.
The minority in parliament have also resisted the implementation the levy.
Jamaludeen Abdullah, Minister of Youth and Sports suffered cuts from a sharp object when E-levy debate on the floor of parliament on Monday, December 20, 2021 ended in exchange of blows.
Despite stiff opposition, government is going round the nation with its Town Hall meetings to convince the populace to accept the passage of the levy.
Latest information suggest that Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta will withdraw the controversial e-levy in parliament on Tuesday.
According to JoyNews, ‘Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin has revealed that the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, will withdraw the controversial e-levy in Parliament and re-introduce same.
‘Government will withdraw the controversial levy on Tuesday, February 15…but it ‘will be reintroduced on Friday, February 18 at a reviewed percentage of 1.5’.
