News coming in suggests that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, well known as Chairman Wontumi ,who has been caged at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra for the past five days could be released from custody today, Monday, June 2, 2025.
Wontumi’s legal team are currently working hard to get a bail for him. Some party bigwigs, supporters and sympathizers have massed up outside the premises of EOCO with the hope that Chairman Wontumi will gain his freedom today.
EOCO is investigating the NPP Chairman on allegations of financial misconduct, including fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.
On May 28, 2025, Chairman Wontumi was granted bail in the sum of GHC50 million with two sureties. Yet,he is been held by state security.
