24-year-old Kelvin Ofori Sakyi, who is a sales agent at the Mile 8 branch of Obrempong Cold Store in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment with hard labour after being found guilty of blowing his employer’s cash (GH¢75,895) on Soccer bet gambling.
Reports indicated that Kelvin got exposed after the company conducted an extensive financial audit of its debtors following constant irregularities in the daily sales he rendered to management of the cold store.
Whenever the complainant confronted him on the shortage in the daily sales, he claimed that customers had purchased the products on credit. However, the financial audit by the company revealed that, those customers Kelvin had suggested owed the company made payments to him via mobile money.
According to information, ‘during the month of October and November 2024, he could not account for the sales of frozen products valued GH¢75,895.00 which was entrusted to him’.
Kelvin was then arrested by the police leading to investigation which revealed that Sakyi used the money he initially couldn’t account for mainly to stake Soccer bet.
Kelvin Ofori Sakyi’s mobile money transaction history obtained from mobile operator MTN showed that, between October and November 2024, he spent a whooping amount of GH¢75,173.00 on Soccer bet. He admitted same in his investigation caution statement.
