Some political activists are busily pushing an agenda on social media agenda for government to consider halting the payment of ex gratia to President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The debate on whether Akufo-Addo, as a former president, deserves a parting package or not is pre-determined by the laws of Ghana.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide to President John Mahama is claimed to have stated in a GHOne TV news report that the current government will honour everything Akufo-Addo is entitled to as former president.
‘Akufo-Addo will be given all his entitlements regardless of how bad Pres. Mahama was treated as former President’, Mogtari said.
In a reaction, one MrOpare commented on X that:
‘If Mahama as an Ex President didn’t enjoy ex gratia, there’s no way Akufo Addo should. We don’t have to always appear to be saints. Empower our monthers [sic] and aunties in the grassroot with those funds! He(Addo D) set the precedence, let’s just follow it. How’s this even difficult?’.
But one netizen responded to him saying ‘I disagree with you. Someone sensible has to take it upon himself and stop that nonsense. It’s a country we are building for God sake’.
Another social media user said ‘Sure. It must be reciprocal. All privileges that was denied JDM must be symmetrical to the response to Nana Addo’. SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
