The outbreak of coronavirus is causing fear and panic among some African leaders.
Right here in Ghana, President Nana Akufo-Addo refused to shake the hands of dignitaries who were present at last Friday’s Independence Day celebration .
Akufo-Addo instead of shaking hands, bowed to each dignitary including the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Dr Keith Christopher Rowley, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
Tanzania’s President has also taken an action to protect himself.
Tanzania’s State House has shared a picture of President John Magufuli exchanging a foot greeting with opposition politician Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad, observing new measures by the health ministry to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Foot-shake isn’t the only alternative to pressing the flesh. The National University of Singapore has made a few suggestions–bumping elbows, or simply waving.
Meanwhile, the US has raised travel warnings after recording its first coronavirus death in Washington state.
