At least five Ghanaian legislators, and a clerk who were on a study visit in Nairobi have been caught up in a sudden attack on the Kenyan Parliament by protesters on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.
The demonstrators, largely made of up young people set fire to a portion of the country’s Parliament House. They have been on the streets for days to reject the introduction of new taxes by the government and to show their displeasure at the escalating cost of living.
President William Ruto have described the demonstrators as ‘criminals’.
The five Ghanaian MPs who found themselves in the midst of chaos as protesters besieged the Kenyan Parliament were Emmanuel Gyamfi, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Thomas Ampem, Sylvester Tetteh and Mohammed Tuferu and Mrs Anita Quartey-Papafio, the Clerk.
