The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has onferred on the First Lady an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters (HonD.HL).
The First Lady was honored at the 5th session of the 15th Congregation held at the UPSA campus.
In her address, Rebecca Akufo-Addo stressed the significant roles women play in both the judiciary and executive, and predicted that Ghana will one day elect a woman as president.
‘I dream that one day there will be a woman president in Ghana and Madam President will be said as easy as Mr. President’, she said.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo posted photos of the ceremony on social media platform X saying ‘On Tuesday, 12th December 2023, the University of Professional Studies, Accra, conferred an Honourary Doctorate Degree on my beautiful Rebecca, the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
‘The University also conferred Honourary Degrees on Mrs Joyce Bamford Addo, our nation’s first female Speaker of Parliament, and former Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, the first lady in our nation’s history to occupy this position’.
The president’s cousin Gabby Otchere Darko commented that Rebecca Akufo-Addo deserves the honour, adding ‘She is a course on “How To Be The Model Classy First Spouse”.
