Lawyer Andrew Asiamah Amoah, the independent Member of Parliament (MP) for Fomena in the Ashanti Region has been in the spotlight for some time now.

Prior to the 2020 general elections, the New Patroitic Party (NPP) dismissed Mr Asiamah from the party. He then contested as an independent parliamentary candidate and won the Fomena Constituency seat.

At the inauguration of the 8th Parliament, Mr Asiamah was appointed the second Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

On his first day in parliament, he indicated his willingness to align himself with the NPP.

VIDEO: Armed military officers storm Ghana Parliament House. Reason will shock you

Ghana has been left with an unprecedented hung Parliament following the 2020 polls.

The current Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin is a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). He was elected for the position last Thursday, January 7.

Armed military officers stormed Parliament House when there was confusion during the election of the new speaker of the 8th Parliament.

Given the current situation where the NPP and NDC has equal number of representation in the House, 137 each, the suggestion is that Mr Asiamah’s decision to join the NPP side in the House could enable the party to form the majority caucus in parliament.

Despite the unfortunate punishment the NPP meted out to him in 2020, the Fomena MP still has an unrepentant love for the NPP.

On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, Lawyer Andrews Asiamah sent a letter to the Speaker of Parliament to officially notify him of his decision to align himself with the NPP Caucus in Parliament.

A copy of his letter sighted by Kasatintin.com read:

‘I Andrew Asiamah Amoako, an Independent Member for Fomena constituency and now the 2nd Deputy Speaker for the same Parliament do hereby declare that, I shall for the purposes of transacting business in the house associate with the NPP in the Eighth Parliament.’

‘For the avoidance of doubt, I do hereby affirm that I shall cooperate and collaborate with the NPP Caucus in the Eighth Parliament,’ he concluded.
