It has emerged that Ghana spent close to $348 million to import toilet papers for use in the country over a period of 4 years.
Myjoyonline.com reports that ‘Data extracted from OEC trade statistics indicates that Ghana spent approximately $348 million towards the importation of toilet paper within the timeframe spanning from 2017 to 2021.
Further analysis reveals that Ghana’s average import bill on toilet paper stands at roughly $70 million annually’.
Quite interesting, in September 2018, a 49-year-old man was arrested by the police for stealing 24 pieces of toilet rolls from Parliament house.
Reports claimed the suspect sneaked into the Job 600 building–which houses offices for lawmakers–through a lift, entered and searched each washroom for unused toilet rolls.
There were calls for Parliament to tamper justice with mercy due to the trivial nature of what the 49-year-old man stole.
