A video making the rounds in Ghana and on many social media platforms shows Guinean President Alpha Conde beating one of his ministers in the middle of the street.
The Guinean President is reported to have beaten the hell out of his Labour Minister for blowing funds meant to fight COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Some netizens have commended Alpha Conde for taking an instant action against the minister urging other African presidents to do same in the fight against corruption especially in the management of COVID funds.
Indeed, several African heads of state have punished state officials they deemed to have squandered COVID-19 funds.
In Malawi, ministers have been sent to prison. In South Africa, ministers have been sacked because of COVID.
Also in Ghana, pressure groups have advised Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu to resign on allegation that he side-stepped due processes in the procurement of Sputnik V vaccines.
Under the said contract, Ghana was expected to receive 3.4 million doses of the vaccine at a unit cost of $19 instead of the ex-factory price of $10 per dose.
Norweigian news outlet, Verdens Gang, which first broke the news said Ghana requested to purchase the doses of the Sputnik V vaccine through two businessmen who are selling it to Ghana at $19 per dose instead of the $10 per dose on the international market.
Other sources disclosed that the initial price quoted for the vaccine was US$25, and it was negotiated downwards to US$19.
Mr. Agyeman-Manu is facing a fact-finding committee over the controversial Sputnik V vaccine.
Well, with all that is going on, people think the Health Minister should honourably resign, or the President should sack him.
