Multiple media reports indicate that the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has requested for a thorough investigation into the source of wealth of the founder of Bills Micro-Credit, Richard Nii Armah Quaye.
Mr Quaye has been on the radar of the GRA days after hosting a gargantuan party at the Independence Square in Accra to mark his 40th birthday.
Information suggest that the tax office is on his neck to provide proof of the source of the money he used for the birthday bash which attracted dozens of celebrities and rich people from across Africa.
Other local news media say Richard Nii Armah Quaye is currently undergoing a personal income tax assessment by the GRA.
The reports suggest that the assessment pertains to his outstanding personal income tax yet to be settled at the GRA. Quaye owes about GHS 30 million in personal income tax, unconfirmed report said.
The action by tax authorities has been explained as a routine regulatory oversight to ensure that the entrepreneur complies with his tax obligations.
Other sources say the Financial Intelligence Center (FIC) has also frozen all bank accounts belonging to Richard Nii Armah Quaye, as a result of an order dated March 21, 2025. The action was taken by the FIC in accordance with Section 56(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).
Aside his personal bank accounts, it is alleged Quaye has also been blocked from accessing all bank accounts relating to his top businesses.
Meanwhile, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine has ordered the arrest of several appointees under the erstwhile Nana Akufo-Addo administration over their involvement in an alleged corruption scandal. Watch the video below for the full list of suspects.
