Popular radio and television host, Deloris Frimpong Manso, well known in showbiz circles as Delay on Wednesday night expressed shock at the death of Sir John and mourned his death, recalling her last phone conversation with him just a week ago.
Delay, who was saddened by the news claims she spoke to Sir John just last week.
The TV personality took to twitter to share fond memories of the affable politician. In a tweet sighted by Kasatintin.com she said:
‘Sir John called me last week, we spoke about our old interview that had resurfaced on the net. We laughed about it and I promised to visit as soon as I could. Now, this….what a year’.
Sir John, otherwise called Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie died at age 77 on Wednesday after a short illness.
He is reported to have contracted COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment at the ICU of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where he incidentally passed away.
Until his death, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission. Sir John was appointed to that position by President Nana Akufo-Addo in March 2017.
He also served as the General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2010 to 2014.
Sir John was a lawyer. He was the inventor and originator of the political lexicon, ‘Fear delegates not ghosts’.
The NPP has since reacted to his death, saying:
‘Rest well Sir John. A Father, brother, mentor to many and a great asset to NPP’.
