Teenage pregnancy is on the rise in Ghana despite several interventions by government and NGOs to reduce or end the menace.
A new study conducted by Star Ghana Foundation has found young girls’ love for indomie and mobile money (MoMo) to be the root cause of teenage pregnancy in the country.
The research also showed addiction to social media was a major cause of the menace.
According to the study, teenage girls allowed men to sleep with them so they can also have unstricted access to their phones to take pictures and post on social media.
It added that the young girls easily gave in sex if a man could just buy indomie for them at night and send a token to their MoMo more often.
The research sought to identify and suggest solutions to the negative impact of COVID-19 on young girls and women in the last six months.
The research findings were shared at a public forum in Tamale.
