Actress Rosemond Brown popularly known as Akuapem Poloo has been granted bail.
Poloo, who was handed a 90-day jail term for publishing obscene material and violating the dignity and integrity of her 7-year-old son in a nude photo she shared on social media was granted bail in the sum of GHS80,000 with two sureties on Wednesday morning.
Her lawyer, Andrew Vortia has asked for a more lenient punishment for the convict maintaining the custodial sentence handed out by the Accra Circuit Court was harsh.
He said ‘the mitigating factors in her favour are greater than the aggravating factors. When you consider this offence, it is not rape. It is not murder. It is a misdemeanour in which she could have been dealt with lightly’.
As part of the bail condition, Akuapem Poloo is required to report to the case investigator every two weeks and is to deposit her passport with the registrar of the High Court.
The bail was granted this morning by the Criminal Division of the Accra High Court.
But the actress is not out of the hook yet. The bail is part of one of the appeals her legal counsel sought at the apex court.
The notice of appeal was filed Monday (April 19, 2021) by Poloo’s lawyer, Mr Andrews Vortia, at the Accra High Court [Criminal Court 2 Division]’, according to Graphiconline.com.
Kasatintin.com gathers that Akuapem Poloo’s appeal is premised on two grounds; that first, she’s a first time offender and therefore the Circuit Court should have considered her plea of guilty as a mitigating factor when imposing the sentence.
The convicted actress again argues that the trial judge should have imposed a fine on her instead of a custodial sentence.
Akuapem Poloo will know her true fate after the court determines the outstanding issues.
