Seven (7) local radio stations have been directed to shutdown with immediate effect.
The directive is being implemented by National Communications Authority (NCA).
Gumah FM in Bawku which belongs to a renowned Ghanaian political figure has been shutdown on national security grounds, ‘and in six other cases on the grounds of broadcasting without a valid frequency authorisation based on the recently requested frequency audit’, Sam George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations explained in a post on X.
The six entities affected by the directive are:
1.Fire Group of Companies, Sunyani—90.1 MHZ
2.i-Zar Consult Limited, Tamale —89.7 MHZ
3.Abochannel media group, Adidome—105.7 MHZ
4.Okyeame Radio Limited, Bibiani—99.7 MHZ
5.Mumen Bono Foundation,Techiman—99.7 MHZ
6.Osikani Community FM, Nkrankwanta—99.7 MHZ
‘Enforcement of the directive is immediate. Further action would be taken in the coming days’, Sam George stressed ‘Once again, I reiterate my commitment to sanitising our airwaves and ensuring strict adherence with the law concerning frequency authorisations. I urge all media houses to ensure they are complying with ALL the terms of their frequency authorisations’.
