President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré has taken a bold step to reduce the salaries of politicians in the country.
As part of his economic reform agenda, Captain Traoré has reduced the salaries of ministers and high-ranking politicians by 30%.
Traoré has however increased the salaries of public sector workers by 50%, indicating his commitment to improving the livelihoods of ordinary citizens.
With this cut in politicians’ salary, the president intends to address economic imbalances and promote financial responsibility within the government.
What is more, Traoré has refused to accept a presidential salary. He wants to maintain his pay as a military captain.
Ibrahim Traoré, born 14th March 1988 is a Burkinabè military officer who has been the interim leader of Burkina Faso since the 30th September, 2022 coup d’état that ousted interim president Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba.
