The University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Accra has been trending after news report suggested that the school management had sacked two students for engaging in lesbianism.
The students were accused of having hot s#x with another guy at the same time in their hostel.
The female students were found to have f0ndled each other during their sexual escapade and engaged in some form of lesbianism.
A public notice which leaked online claimed that the two lesbian students were expelled from their hostel following their involvement in the sexual misconduct.
‘Engaging in acts of lesbianism is contrary to Section 1.28.11(g) of the Student Handbook of the University of Professional Studies, Accra; 2018 and Schedule G 8.3 (23) of the Statute of the University’, a portion of the circular read.
The school also warned students to ‘Desist from sexual misconduct and observe all other rules and regulations in the Hostel as well as the Student Handbook. Any student caught infringing any of the regulations will not be spared’.
On Wednesday, November 24, 2021 the Registrar of UPSA issued a press statement to clarify the widely circulated news report on the expulsion of the students.
The latest release indicated that no disciplinary report on the alleged incident was before the management of the school.
It maintained that the public notice which communicated the said expulsion of the students did not follow the approved procedure for communicating such decisions:
‘The Vice Chancellor of UPSA is the Chief Disciplinary Officer, and all decisions taken taken by the Vice Chancellor are communicated through the Registrar. Any disciplinary communication that does not follow the above procedure is not authorized by Management and should therefore be disregarded’.
