The University of Ghana (Legon) authorities have called for calm among students after a young man fell from the fourth floor of the Mensah Sarbah Hall Annex A building on Friday.
The University’s Dean of Students, Prof Godfred Alufar Bokpin said ‘I will urge every student to be calm. There should be no panic because the situation is under control’.
He added that ‘The issue is being investigated, the police and hall authorities are all involved and trying to get to the bottom of it’.
Kasatintin.com’s investigations reveal that, the victim is a National Service Personnel who’s a resident at the University of Ghana campus.
The young man has been identified as Wahab Abdulai. He is reported to be in a critical condition after falling from the fourth floor of the Mensah Sarbah Hall Annex A building at about 1.30am on Friday.
Reports suggest that Wahab slipped and fell out of his room when he attempted to hide at the balcony upon a tip off that, the hall assistants were hunting for illegal occupants, popularly known as ‘perchers’.
An eyewitness said occupants of the room heard someone banging the door in the middle of the night and assumed that it was the hall assistants who were doing their random checks.
‘We asked asked the victim to hide in the balcony until the people they mistook for hall porters leave. Suddenly, we heard a loud crashing sound and rushed to see what had happened then we found the boy lying on the ground floor’.
The victim, after falling, suffered bone damages and was rushed to the Legon Hospital for treatment.
Wahab was later transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
